Here Are 10 Free Quilt Patterns From Midnight Quilt Show Queen Angela Walters

Actions

If there's anything we like more than making quilts, it's got to be free quilt patterns. Which is why Angela Walters, host of our uber-popular Midnight Quilt Show series, is our quilting BFF: not only can you download her most popular patterns below (did we mention they're free?!), but you can also stitch along with Angela as she works up each quilt. The only question: Which one will you make first?!

1. On Point Flower Shoppe

This floral quilt is super easy to piece thanks to precut strips. And you know what easy piecing means — more time for quilting! Pro tip: use a walking foot and a free motion foot to save time and create one-of-a-kind designs that are totally on point. (See what we did there?)

2. Modern Rail Fence

Having a few Tetris skills in your back pocket will help you piece together this rail fence and log cabin mashup. Oh, and don't worry about having picture-perfect piecing — this quilt doesn't have any matching seams, so no one will even notice.

3. Carpenter's Star

Make like Angela and get a jump on your holiday crafts with this colorful quilt. You'll use half-square triangles to create the diamond designs, but heads up: you want to nest your seams to ensure you get perfectly-pieced points that match oh-so-nicely.

4. Scrappy Stars

Grab your favorite fat quarters and join the paper piecing party so you can make this starry quilt. The upside to using Boundless Batiks (other than their ability to make those stars twinkle): the fabric is double-sided, so you never have to worry about which side is up!

5. All Roads

If there's one thing Angela loves, it's precut fabrics . They save so much time! This quilt pattern uses 10" squares to create half-square triangles via the magic 8 method — another major time saver — then combines them with other square cuts to make a gorgeous overall medallion design.

6. Town Square

Grab a bundle of precut 5" squares and randomly put colors together to make a bunch of 4-patch blocks in no time. (The scrappier the better in this quilt!) That'll be the basis of your quilt top — couple it with a pieced border and you've got yourself a colorful top you can start and finish in a single weekend .

7. Shattered Frames

There are two elements that make this stash-busting quilt a major win: a binding made up of cute scraps, and vibrant gold thread that really shows off your free-motion quilting skills. Choose a fun design of your own, or follow the quilting diagram Angela made to replicate her cozy masterpiece.

8. Modern Bargello

Ask and you shall receive! After tons of requests to see bargello quilting , Angela whipped up a free quilt pattern that utilizes this technique — along with precut 10" squares — to make a gorgeous curved design.

9. Braided Star

Revamp a basic braid block by giving it a star-powered arrangement. If you've never sewn partial seams before, now's the perfect time to try — the fabric is super forgiving, so things don't have to be perfect.

10. Set the Table Placemats

Quilters can make so much more than just, well, quilts. Smaller items , like these placemats, come together super quickly and you can practice your quilt-as-you-go techniques along the way. Win-win!
