10 Adorable Overalls & Dungarees for Toddlers

Take a look at any fashion magazine and you’ll be amazed to see how many stars wear overalls. Overalls (or dungarees or salopettes, depending on where you live!) can be sporty just as much as it can be posh, depending on what you wear with it. But overalls aren’t only for celebrities — they’re simply precious on children, as you’ll see with these fun and cute DIY overall patterns.

Let’s roll up our sleeves and sew DIY overalls!

1. Elephant Overalls

This is probably the funniest design I’ve found! Look at those ears and the trunk — they sure make a statement! The pattern comes in a wide range of sizes (12 months to 12 years), although I think it may be hard to make a tween wear it!

2. Overalls

This overalls pattern, labeled as “advanced” because of the multiple pattern pieces, looks flawless to me: I love the back bib style lines, the back yoke, all of the pockets, the snaps at the sides of the waistline, the double topstitch… I think this one sums up all that I think an overall should look.

3. Playproof Dungaree Skirt

Dungarees are not only pants! This charming gathered skirt can be worn with just a white T-shirt for a summer picnic. Or, layer it on top of your basic leggings or tights with a frilly shirt for a less casual event. This will stretch out its life, so to get the most out of it (don’t you love when clothes are that versatile? I do!).

4. Dungarees (3 to 6 years)

Here’s another great, classic dungaree pattern, perfect for the little ones. This project features a side button opening, an elastic waistline, and plenty of pockets you can sew in a contrasting fabric — it will be practical to put on and off while being cute! Want to easily achieve a nice store-bought look? Mix and match the bib lining and the pocket fabric!

5. Asher Overall

I love how this pattern solves the straps length problem with a knot! This way, the overalls will grow with your child, stretching the overall fit-window. The pattern comes in four sizes (1 to 4 years) and features a bubble effect on the back and roll-up lined cuffs.

6. Dog Bib Overall

You know a fashion trend is a real trend when it translates well in pet fashion! Make these fun overalls pattern for your dog (there are sizes for all kinds of pups!). I like how the Velcro closures and elastic casings give your furry friend the perfect comfy fit. An optional D-ring can be added as a harness!

7. Cassidy Dungaree Dress

Just like the dungaree skirt, this overall dress it can be layered above tees or tanks and leggings or tights. Coming in sizes 2T to 12 years, it’s perfect sewn using bottom-weight fabrics like denim, corduroy, twill or canvas. Play with fabrics and color block it for even more fun!

8. Buttons & Buckles Overall and Shortall

This pattern has plenty of built-in room for cloth diapers, which makes it perfect for quick and easy diaper changes. Strap closures, like buttons or buckles, make these overalls absolutely classic. The pattern includes instructions on how to add pockets and have fun with contrasting fabrics.

9. Lullaby Lines Overalls

This style of overalls translates well with cozy knit or a fun woven fabric. They’re designed for preemies to 4T and include these super cute ruffles around the rounded bib, along with an optional snap inseam for diaper changes. Can’t you see it made in a cute flannel fabric or an interlock knit, for stylish and comfy house wear around the house?

10. MaliAlls Shortalls/Overalls

This unisex pattern includes instructions on how to make a girly, ruffled version or a boy-ish version with woven cuffs. You also have options when it comes to pockets: try either gathered pockets or rectangular pockets — a perfect opportunity to play with contrasting fabrics.
