There are a million ways to make a menorah, but this one has become a fast favorite. All you need is a few cans of spray paint, a handful of washers and a bunch of PVC. Let's get stacking!
Here’s how to build your own:
What you need
- 28 pieces of pre-cut PVC (10 large, 9 medium, 9 small)*
- Three colors of spray paint
- Hot glue gun
- 1 large washer
- 9 small washers
- Taper candles
*Check sizes carefully to make sure they fit together as shown: medium should "wedge" into large, and small should stack on top of medium.
1. Paint the PVC
Before we start building, we’ve gotta paint all our pieces. Pick the colors you want for your large, medium and small pieces and spray paint them until each is evenly coated. As always, be sure to use your spray paint outside or in a well-ventilated area.
2. Stack the shamas base
First, we’re going to build the large center candle. Once your spray paint is dry, grab a large piece of painted PVC and line the top rim with hot glue. Place the large washer across the top.
When it’s glued down, add more hot glue around the top of the washer and secure a second large piece of PVC.
3. Keep building
Press a medium piece of PVC into the larger piece until it's secure. You should be able to wedge this layer in without any glue.
For the final layer, add hot glue around the base of a small PVC piece and stack it on top of the medium piece.
Then add more hot glue on top and glue down a small washer.
4. Repeat x8
Repeat this process to build the eight other candles — but be sure to only use one large base piece, so the center candle stands taller. Then just stick a taper candle into the small washers and start celebrating!
