Using your homemade glitter

Materials you'll need:

  • Glue, glue pen or double-sided tape
  • Card stock or other paper of your choice
  • Scrap paper

There are several ways that you can use this newly made glitter (or the store-bought variety) to make different glitter filled paper crafts. Here are a few of my favorites!

Using a glue pen:

Lay down a piece of scrap paper to protect your work surface. Then, apply a thin layer of glue onto a sheet of card stock. You can spread the glue as big and wide as you would like -- just remember the glitter is going to stick wherever you apply glue. Then sprinkle the glitter onto the glue, making sure you fill in all the crevices on the glued part. I usually just end up dumping A LOT of glitter on the glue. Once it's covered, take your paper and shake the excess glitter onto the scrap paper lying under your newly glittered paper. Once dried, you may now cut out any shapes you would like or use a stamp punch.

Using double-sided tape:

Double-sided tape is another perfect way to create patterns or letters onto the actual paper. To use this method, simply take your paper and create your pattern, lettering, etc., using the double-sided tape, and then slowly peel the tape off, leaving just the stickiness behind. Then, pour glitter on top of the tape, making sure to cover all the crevices. Always remember to shake off the excess to see your finished work.

Using regular glue:

Follow the same instructions for using the glue pen, but be warned, this method is only recommended for heavy duty glitter projects. Simply put the glue in the pattern you desire, and then shake the glitter onto the paper. This process sometimes requires a few rounds of applying glitter and shaking off the excess in order to get the heavy glitter look you're going for.

Regular glue is perfect for projects like the awesome geometric paper ornaments seen above.

Fun project ideas to try!

Chevron pattern:

Making a chevron pattern is quite simple. All you need to do is grab your scrap paper, place it underneath your piece of card stock or paper of your choice. Begin with either a glue pen or double-sided tape. If you are using double-sided tape it's important to press the tape down firm in the chevron pattern, and then pull the tape back up, leaving the stickiness of the other side still there. Once you've repeated this step to complete your page, throw glitter on the page, filling all the crevices where the adhesive is and then shake the excess off onto the scrap paper.

Glitter hearts:

Simply place scrap paper underneath your paper of your choice, use a glue pen to outline a heart shape (use a stencil if you like), and then shake the glue onto the hearts until they are completely covered, and shake the excess glitter off.
