Project Runway Recap: 3 Ways We're Making a Statement After This Week's Show on Bravo

Actions

The designers tapped into the spirit of social causes this week, reminding us that creativity is one of the most powerful ways to make a meaningful statement. Below are just a few ways to raise your own creative voice and let your message be heard!

Draw It Out

There's something special about looks that incorporate a handwritten note, but here's a secret — you don't have to actually draw to achieve it. One designer used free-motion machine embroidery to tell her story, and as long as you have a sewing machine, you can too.

Move over, pencil and pen. We're using our sewing machines to draw. That's right, free-motion machine embroidery uses your basic sewing machine to draw pictures with thread.

Embrace the Rainbow

While the fashion world certainly doesn't shy away from black fabric, one designer reminded us that color is fun, a source of pride and here to send a message about equal rights. Channel those positive vibes through your choice of craft, whether it's stamping cards, embroidering jeans or making a quilt.

Rainbows, rainbows everywhere — and all of them you can make! Bust out your favorite crafting supplies and catch the colors all weekend with these fun projects.

Go Skin Deep

One of the top looks was all about celebrating the value of every human being, regardless of skin tone. Painters can channel that message through nude art, translating the beauty of the human form in all its wonderful diversity.

Host Mondo Guerra stars in this week's episode of RUNWAY REMAKE, our exclusive digital series that takes its cues from Bravo's Project Runway challenges. Tune in to see how he puts his own spin on fashion for a cause with a gift for his mom!

Let's Sharpen Your Skills!

On every episode of Bravo’s Project Runway, you can bet a designer will struggle with something creatively. If only they had Bluprint on the brain! Each week, we’ll highlight a few of our favorite mishaps (been there!) — and share easy ways to fix them.

Install Zippers Correctly

A poorly installed zipper can send a garment right off the rails. Save yourself from a downgraded design by mastering a variety of zipper applications that'll suit any look.

Know How to Handle Sheer Fabrics

See-through material like tulle can be tricky to work with, and one designer made that more than clear as she struggled with bunching, uncooperative fabric. Become a master at manipulating sheer fabrics and avoid your own fashion catastrophe.
