Project Runway Recap: 3 Oh-So-Elegant Projects We're Making After This Week's Show on Bravo

Actions

A charity gala. A Venetian ball. Heck, even lunch at a high-end restaurant. When the time comes to dress to the nines, elegance is the word of the day. This week the designers were challenged with creating a look that embodies the idea of elegance and elevates any occasion. Their gorgeous creations definitely left us in a feelin' fancy mood — here's how we're taking advantage of it.

Upgrading Our Earrings

Accessories can truly make or break an outfit, and we loved how one of the top designers piled on statement earrings and a see-through bag to push his look to the next level. That's why you'll find us adding these kintsugi beauties to our jewelry rotation ASAP.

In Western culture, if we repair something, we tend to do our best to ensure that those repairs never show. In contrast, the Japanese tradition of repairing broken pottery with gold-infused lacquer embraces the object's past as part of its unique story. This method, called kintsugi, is the inspiration behind your next polymer clay project.

Making Sparkling Candy

Nothing's fancier than having a glass of bubbly in hand. To indulge that sparkly feeling all day sans alcohol, we're whipping up a batch of bellini hard candy. (You heard that right: bellini.) Best part: It'll pop and fizzle with each bite.

Jami covers hard candy essentials, focusing on the key ingredients: sugar and glucose. Understand the role that temperature plays as you learn to create hard candy lollipops that look like stained glass as well as Bellini-inspired sparkling candies.

Going Mad for Plaid

The winning look proved that plaid has come a long way from flannel jammies. Our favorite way to wear it: as a chic tote bag.

Meet Diane and begin by exploring the Harris Tote's features. Discover the best fabrics, interfacings, and stabilizers to use for the bag and lining. After you cut out all the pattern pieces, watch as Diane demonstrates her fusing technique.
Ellie Lum stars in this week's episode of RUNWAY REMAKE, our exclusive digital series that takes its cues from Bravo's Project Runway challenges. Tune in to see how she makes a totally chic, totally transparent tote!

Let's Sharpen Your Skills!

On every episode of Bravo’s Project Runway, you can bet a designer will struggle with something creatively. If only they had Bluprint on the brain! Each week, we’ll highlight a few of our favorite mishaps (been there!) — and share easy ways to fix them.

Adjust a Bust

This week we heard lots of talk about properly fitting a curvier model. To highlight her shape in the best possible way, a designer has to know how to adapt a concept to work with any physique. These lessons make sure you're in the know too, so you can alter virtually any sewing pattern.

Finish a Hem

Christian said it best: "It's elegant — finishing is everything!" The judges and mentors made it clear that they didn't want to see any more haphazard hems on the runway. If the designers had these couture tricks up their sleeves, they'd be done with the hangups.
