8 Sweet Spring Dresses to Sew for Little Girls

At this time of the year, I feel the need to sew yet another spring dress for my little girl! Do you really need an excuse to sew more dresses? If your answer is yes, choose one of the following patterns… they are all available for FREE!

1. Birthday peplum dress

Featuring a scooped back, an exposed zipper, and an optional pleated embellishment around the neckline, this lined bodice can be attached to a dress or peplum-length bottom. Add two layers of tulle underneath the skirt portion for added volume and fun!

2. Girls Flower Dress

Depending on where you live, you might still need sleeves on your spring dress. This pattern, designed for knit fabric, includes both short and long sleeve options. Its coolest feature is the box pleats on the skirt. I would probably use a heavyweight knit (like pone) to add volume.

3. Love-ly Sundress

To sew this sundress, you just need a white T-shirt (the bigger, the better) and a few craft supplies. Decorations are added using two easy techniques: freezer-paper painting and a 3-D sew-and-cut fabric embellishment. Tip: Layer it above long or short sleeved T-shirts and leggings if spring is still not at her best!

4. Vintage Lady Dress

This beginner-friendly pattern includes a few eye-catching details, like a lined bodice and a Peter Pan collar. The back includes a four-button closure, which you could swap for a zipper if you prefer.

5. Shirt Dress Pattern for Toddlers

I have a thing for refashioning pre-loved clothes. With just a couple of cuts, a few stitches, add a bit of elastic, you can turn a men’s dress shirt into a dress! It’s the perfect “daddy’s shirt” dress, ready in a handful of minutes and spending almost no money!

6. Simple Baby Dress Pattern

This sleeveless dress, which comes with a video tutorial, is the perfect example of how you can dress up a simple design. Can you see how adding that gorgeous black eyelet lace ribbon to the hem, the neckline, and the faux front closure completely changes a plain dress?

7. Cuddle Bouquet Peasant Dress

Peasant dresses are here to stay, no doubt! This one includes a ¼” elastic in the middle of the sleeve length, so it looks like it has a bell sleeve (but you’ll sew it in a jiff!). Elastic ruffling at the neckline also makes this pattern suitable for almost any type of fabric, from light to medium weight and knit or woven.

8. Ruffled Sunshine Dress

This adorable little dress includes some of my favorite details for spring: a lined bodice, a lightly shirred skirt with ruffles, a fabric flower and a round collar with just one button.
